Mount Bromo, Indonesia

Because I've always wanted to...

Dear All,

Trust you are well and now that Spring is almost upon us you are thinking about those summer holidays?! Helen and I leave for Sri Lanka this week; a country that has seen so many changes since the end of the war. Full “lateral jealousy” report in our April e-letter. Steve has just returned from a 2 week trip to Mexico exploring the Mayan Riviera and Yucatan Peninsula. Now that BA has direct flights to Cancun this really is a hot destination for all, from romantic honeymoons to luxurious family getaways to adventure and culture seekers. See below for more details…

Laterally Yours,
Nick

Ecuador & Galapagos

Holbox Island

A true lateral starting point, Holbox is accessed by ferry from Chiquila where you’ll find an island of laidback sandy streets, barefoot accommodation, white-sand beaches and in summer an opportunity to swim and snorkel with the friendly whale-sharks. Hotel Las Nubes is our favourite place to stay here.
Months to travel – Year round. Peak: Dec-Apr. Whale-shark season: Jul-Aug.

Campeche

This hidden gem of a colonial city is untouched by tourism compared to rival cities such as Merida and Oaxaca. However, the architecture has been beautifully restored and wandering the quaint streets is a pure delight coupled with Campeche’s coastline setting. Top off the visit by staying at the converted Hacienda Puerta Campeche ideally located in the heart of the Old Town.
Months to travel – Year round. Peak: Dec-Apr.

Costa Rica & Nicaragua

Hacienda Hopping

Mix up beach days with a little culture at one of the region’s incredible haciendas. Close to the impressive Mayan ruins at Uxmal, the 16th century Hacienda Temozon sits on a former sisal estate and has been converted into an invitingly impressive luxury hotel.
Months to travel – Year round. Peak: Dec-Apr.

Riviera Maya

For luxurious beach accommodation the choice is endless. For honeymooners we recommend the delightful Esencia, former home of an Italian Duchess; for families the Banyan Tree Mayakoba has incredible villas with large private pools and an unrivalled level of service.
Months to travel – Year round. Peak: Dec-Apr.

On the planning front, Costa Rica and North America are the flavours of the month. Both ideal for families and the activities to keep the kids entertained are second to none in a safe and friendly environment. On the travel front, a 45 day epic tour of Brazil is underway taking in the well-known hotspots such as Rio and Salvador but also venturing off the beaten track to go diving in Fernando de Noronha and hiking in the Chapada Diamantina.
